Police are pursuing this man following the unprovoked assault in the Christchurch CBD on Sunday.

Kyra Amiria-Ria was trying to break up a fight between two men when behind her a man was knocked out, his head hitting the pavement, in an “unprovoked attack” by a member of the Half-Blood Mafia.

The 19-year-old Christchurch woman rushed to help the victim.

“All that could be heard was his head hitting the pavement, once he had fallen, the gang of men had run away. All I could do was help the man who was lying unconscious on the ground bleeding from his ear.

“I was scared, not just for myself, but for the injured man and everyone around us was getting angry.”

“The victim lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital where he remains,” he said.

“The assailant was one of a Mongrel Mob group that was socializing in the city at the time.

“[He] he is described as a Maori with tattoos on his arms, dressed in black clothing, a black hat and a red scarf wrapped around his wrist. “

Given the large number of people in the area at the time, police believe members of the public may have videos or photographs of the assault and / or the assailant.

Dozens of members of the Mighty Mongrel Mob Barbarian MC arrived in the South Island on Friday as part of a national gathering over the weekend.

The Mongrel Mob reunion comes in the wake of a double shooting involving Fairmont Wiringi, the son of Mongrel Mob Aotearoa president Joseph “Junior” Wiringi.
