Controversial French magazine Charlie Hebdo wreaked havoc after publishing an offensive cartoon featuring Meghan Markle and Queen Elizabeth II.
The objectionable caricature of enemy royalty shows the monarch kneeling on Meghan’s neck, reflecting the death of George Floyd, who was killed by police officers in a racially motivated attack in the United States last year.
The published illustration comes with the caption “Why Meghan Quit” with the Duchess of Sussex cartoon that reads, “Because I couldn’t breathe anymore.”
The notorious satirical magazine’s cartoon was widely condemned as the executive director of the UK’s racial equality think tank, the Runnymede Trust, Halima Begum, called it “wrong on every level”.
“The queen as George Floyd’s killer crushing Meghan’s neck? Meghan says she can’t breathe? This does not push boundaries, make anyone laugh, or challenge racism. It degrades problems and causes offenses in all areas, ”he tweeted.
This came a week after Prince Harry and Meghan told Oprah Winfrey about their afflictions in their royal lives and how the Duchess became a victim of racism both within and outside the family.
