Police were busy in Dunedin over the weekend.
A beverage driver caught four times over the alcohol limit claimed he ended up in the Otago port after he swerved to avoid ducks.
Police were called to Aramoana Rd after receiving reports that a car was upside down in the harbor at around 5.30pm on Friday.
The 41-year-old woman recorded a breath alcohol reading of 1,075 micrograms of alcohol per liter of breath. The legal limit for drivers over the age of 20 is 250 mcg.
The woman said she “went off course to miss some ducks,” Acting Sergeant Major Anthony Bond said.

Police were also called to an address on Park St after two people were reported trying to break in at 2.10am Saturday.
Instead, they found a 22-year-old student who was “very intoxicated” and asleep at the entrance.
He was arrested for being on the property illegally and received a formal warning.
On Monday, police were called to Riselaw Rd due to reports that they saw a burned-out vehicle on a school field around 2 a.m.
A patrol found that the vehicle was being driven down a trail, and the driver did not stop, Bond said.
The car fled down Mulford St where it was stopped.
A 24-year-old man was charged with failure to stop, intentional injury, prohibited driving, possession of cannabis and sustained loss of traction.
