There are four new Covid-19 cases registered in New Zealand today, all of them in controlled isolation or quarantine.

The total number of active cases in New Zealand is now 44, three from 41 Yesterday.

The Health Ministry said two of today’s cases arrived from South Africa, via Dubai, on September 29.

The two people have been in managed isolation in Rotorua and tested positive after further testing due to previously identified cases on their arrival flight.

The other two cases reported today came from Iran, via Dubai, on October 5. The two people have been to a different managed isolation facility in Rotorua and have had a positive result from routine tests around the third day of their stay.

All four cases have been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.

Today’s announcement means that 15 days have passed since the last community-transmitted Covid-19 case in New Zealand.

No one is hospitalized today and one case has recovered.

Yesterday, the labs processed 4,814 tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to 996,955.

Bledisloe Cup crowd warned to ‘play it safe’

Earlier this week, Auckland met with the rest of the country on Level 1, but Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield warned that “Level 1 is not Level None” and urged Auckland residents to maintain hygiene and precautions whenever possible.

That message is also getting across to rugby fans heading to the Bledisloe Cup clash between the All Blacks and Wallabies in Wellington tomorrow with no restrictions on events or meeting sizes.

The Health Ministry reminded supporters to keep a safe distance from people they don’t know and to consider wearing a mask or covering your face when physical distancing is difficult.

The Ministry also asked those who felt bad to stay home.
