Police seized six vehicles in a weekend bombing
A weekend driving blitz by police detained 42 drunk drivers in the Bay of Plenty.
Police are disappointed by the results of a traffic enforcement operation targeting drunk drivers on the roads of the eastern Bay of Plenty.
Sgt. Mark Holmes said this is an “alarmingly high number” and police are concerned that people are putting themselves and others at risk.
“A large number of those arrested were traveling on state highways.
“In one case, a driver traveling from Gisborne to Tauranga had a breath alcohol reading that greatly exceeded the limit.”
Another driver traveling to Northland also exceeded the limit.
Police seized six vehicles.
The legal alcohol limit for a fully licensed driver over the age of 20 is 250 mcg per liter of breath.
It is a zero limit for those under 20 years of age.
“No one should get behind the wheel when under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and no one should get in a vehicle with a driver who is in that state either.
“Getting home safely is more important than worrying about the price of the taxi.”
The police will continue to be present to ensure that everyone receives the road safety message.
