Five injured in single vehicle accident in Selwyn, Canterbury

Five people were injured, including two seriously, after a car accident in Selwyn, Canterbury.

Emergency services were called for the accident on The Lake Rd between Selwyn Lake Rd and Pannetts Rd near Leeston, 30 kilometers southwest of Christchurch, around 11:05 p.m. Tuesday.

A spokesperson for St John said five people were injured in the crash, two seriously, one moderately and two with minor injuries.

Four St John vehicles and a rescue helicopter were dispatched to the scene and the five people were taken to Christchurch Hospital, he said.

A spokesman for the Canterbury District Board of Health said one person had been discharged and three others were in stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon.

He was unable to get an update on the fifth person’s condition.

There have been 11 other accidents on the same stretch of The Lake Rd since January 2000, according to accident data from the New Zealand Transportation Agency.

One crash was serious, one minor, and the rest were not injured.
