An initially missing person was found safe when fire broke out in a Blenheim home.
Emergency services were called to the fire on George St around 6:20 a.m. Thursday.
New Zealand Fire and Emergency spokesman Andrew Norris said the house was on fire when three crews arrived from Blenheim and another from Renwick.
He said at least one person was initially missing, but has since been found safe and unharmed. They were not thought to be in the house when the fire broke out.
The house is attached to a series of houses.
It looked like the fire hadn’t spread to them, but they were filling with a lot of smoke, Norris said.
A police spokeswoman said police were also on the scene, mainly helping with roadblocks and traffic control, as well as evacuating occupants of adjoining apartments.
Said George St had been blocked at both ends.
Norris said it was too early to determine the cause of the fire or if it was a suspect.
More to come.
