Another house in East Tāmaki went up in smoke, three days after a house on the same street was destroyed by fire.
A brick wall and a fireplace are all that remain of a four-bedroom home along Point View Drive after a fire raged through the property Wednesday night.
Firefighters were called back to Point View Drive overnight when a two-story home burned down.
An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that the two houses were owned by the same person.
The first house is owned by Xiao Hua Gong, a wealthy Chinese businessman accused of running a massive Canadian pyramid scheme.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand was called about the fire around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The fire spewed smoke and yellow flames into the darkened night sky, taking firefighters nearly six hours to put out.
Emergency services were called to Point View Drive overnight, after Fenz was notified of a fire in a two-story house at 12:01 a.m.
The property was well lit when firefighters arrived, but they managed to extinguish the blaze around 1.50 a.m., a Fenz spokesman said.
Crews remained on the scene to buffer hot spots and a fire scene investigator was supposed to visit the property at 8 a.m. to make inquiries about the fire.
The property was thought to be empty, according to a police spokeswoman.
Police were called about the fire around 12:15 a.m. M., Mainly to help control traffic.
A scene guard has been in place all morning.
