Police have found two firearms after an incident off Auckland’s north shore this afternoon.

Police said they were called to Sulfur Beach Rd, Northcote at 1.40pm, where two men were spotted with what appeared to be a firearm.

“Those two men left in a vehicle,” a spokesman said.

“According to the information provided, the police conducted investigations a short time later on a property on Onewa Rd.

“Two firearms were located and several people are assisting the police with investigations at the address. The charges are unclear at this time.”

The location of the firearms follows reports of a heavy police presence in the suburb, including at least eight police cars and a unit of police dogs present.

Stuff reported that residents had been told to stay inside and lock their doors.

A police spokesman said officers were executing a search warrant related to the area.

A resident of Onewa Rd reported seeing police cars parked at driveways and on traffic islands, with the eagle helicopter hovering overhead.
