A newborn baby bitten by a dog in the Enderley suburb of Hamilton has died.

Police confirmed a newborn baby bitten by a dog died in a Hamilton home.

The baby, who was attacked Sunday night, died overnight.

“Sadly, yes, the baby passed away overnight,” police confirmed today.

“The matter will be referred to the coroner.”

The boy was initially taken to Waikato Hospital in critical condition.

Emergency services were called to a home in Enderley around 7 p.m. that night.

Police quickly confirmed that a dog had bitten a baby.

Hamilton City Council staff picked up the animal shortly after.

Police say investigations into the circumstances of the incident are still ongoing.

St John Ambulance had said the baby was taken to Waikato hospital in critical condition.

The spokesperson said an ambulance and a manager were dispatched to a property in the eastern suburb of Enderley at 7.02 p.m.
