A Taranaki family hopes for the best, but fears the worst, after the sudden disappearance of their beloved pet.

Richie, a two-year-old brindle mini bull terrier, disappeared from his backyard at the end of Links Dr, Bell Block, on Wednesday, Eliza Parker said.

The family has offered a $ 5,000 reward for Richie’s safe return, who has also distributed hundreds of flyers around the area, including along the New Plymouth waterfront, and posted on social media platforms in hopes of obtain information that may lead to your recovery.

Parker said that Richie was his father’s best friend. The dog is named after his favorite Canadian DJ, Richie Hawtin, and he even had his own Instagram account.

The family is desperate to get it back.

“They are in addition to themselves,” he said.

Richie had no history of vagrancy and Parker said they have alerted veterinarians and pounds across the country, in addition to activating his microchip to show his status as missing or stolen.

“We hope it is not like we get it back, we hope it is when we get it back.

“The worst fears, everything goes through your mind, from the fighting rings to whether they have taken it to breed. It is awful.”

Richie was well known in the area and on the runway, he said.

Parker said she had been contacted with possible sightings from as far away as Wellington, where a similar dog was found Sunday after it had been stolen somewhere on the North Island.

As time passed, Parker said hopes of seeing Richie again faded.

He appealed to anyone with information or anyone who might have brought Richie to get in touch with the family.

Parker thanked everyone who had shared the posts on social media and was assisting in the search for Richie.

His father planned to have a welcome home party when Richie returned and would invite everyone who had helped him locate him, he said.
