Police were called to a Dunedin home after a person was given the wrong address to go on Tinder.

A man who went to a Dunedin home for a Tinder “hookup” early in the morning got the wrong address, prompting a call from police.

The 32-year-old man went to the property on Douglas St in St Kilda around 4:20 a.m. Sunday, Sergeant Major Craig Dinnissen said.

She tried to enter the home, but instead of meeting a person she arranged to meet through the dating website, she encountered an alarmed resident who closed the door and called the police.

The man showed police his Tinder profile and that he had met a woman named Jo who said to go to the address, among “other things.” No action was taken against him.

Elsewhere, police didn’t have to go far when a 19-year-old rear-ended a car at a McDonald’s at 2.55 a.m. Sunday in the north of the city.

A police officer who was also there tried to signal the vehicle to stop, Dinnissen said, before the car and teenage driver fled the scene, then found him at an address on Hillary St, Pine Hill.

The driver recorded a breath alcohol reading of 149 micrograms per liter of breath, the legal limit being zero for drivers under the age of 20.

Meanwhile, police were called in to several fights between potential gang members in the Dunedin Octagon in the early hours of Sunday.

The men, who had previously been to a bar, are believed to be from outside Dunedin, Dinnissen said.

Officers were also called to the Thorn St playground in the suburb of Caversham after reports that as many as 80 teens were drinking.

One girl had to be taken home due to her intoxication levels, Dinnissen said.

Just before midnight on Saturday, police also found a 70-year-old man unconscious with blood draining from his head and lying drunk in the middle of Springer Rd, Mornington.

They took him to Dunedin Hospital.
