People are being asked to avoid a busy central Wellington street while emergency services respond to a developing situation.
Fire and Emergency is dealing with an incident at the Soho Apartments on Taranaki Street.
The police are also present. There are several vehicles at the scene and one lane has been blocked.
About nine fire trucks are parked outside the apartments.
The lane behind the building is blocked and residents say they have been ordered to evacuate.
Police, firefighters, and emergency workers alike are patrolling the area to make sure no one enters.
The apartments are just meters from Wellington’s Courtenay Place.
Wellington City Council says traffic will be congested and asks people to avoid the area if they can.
More to come.
