Crowds have gathered outside Jacinda Ardern’s Auckland home in the suburb of Sandringham
About 100 supporters are now gathered across the street and path outside Ardern’s house, waiting for their famous neighbor to emerge.
Labor leader and second-term prime minister Jacinda Arden will leave her home in Sandringham in the next few minutes.
He has left his home and will travel to Auckland City Hall, where he will address some 1,000 supporters awaiting his arrival.
A sister of her partner Clarke Gayford said they had been enjoying quiet drinks inside as they watched the results of tonight’s election unfold.
Earlier in the evening, Gayford spent the night at the barbecue and surprised the media and residents with some food.
Gayford brought home-cooked food for the 20 or so residents and a dozen media out of the family home.
It included fish bites made from his catch on a fishing trip with his father and brother-in-law yesterday. He has also made venison patties after killing a deer during a hunting trip.
Both he and Ardern’s parents were in Auckland for election night.
Ardern and Gayford’s daughter Neve was “struggling with bedtime,” she said.
The last election was blurry, he said, referring to Ardern’s selection as leader seven weeks before the 2017 election.
