It looks like party leader David Seymour is possibly enjoying the night, too much.

It has been an extremely successful night for Seymour and his group and he may wake up tomorrow with a headache.

After tonight’s results, Seymour will now have at least nine other MPs with him.

Twitter users caught Seymour’s slurred words during interviews on television.

In an interview with Newstalk ZB, a very happy David Seymour seemed too happy, slurring a few words here and there. With a glass of bubbles in hand.

“When I said I would stop drinking, I didn’t mean to stop drinking champagne on election night,” he said.

Earlier in the evening, Seymour arrived in style at Act’s headquarters in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbor.

In a boat.

When asked what he thought about the support in Act HQ, Seymour responded, “I have a lot of people to thank because a lot of good people have come and supported our campaign so I’m just saying thanks.”

Seymour told Mike Hosking that he was very happy with the vote thus far and thanked his neighbors in the Epsom electorate who trusted him enough to reelect him for another term.

Seymour thanked those who “turned in their hard-earned money after IRD got it” and donated to the Act campaign.

He said his party would continue to reject the Covid-19 response.

“In addition to defending the fundamental freedoms of New Zealanders to their property rights, their freedom of expression and our autonomy over our own body.

“That is what we believe in because a free society is a beautiful society and that is what Act Party stands for: the inherent dignity of each individual.”

“That is what this team will defend in Parliament on your behalf every day from tomorrow.”

Seymour said it was “bittersweet” because while Act had done well, it was also true that the overall result “is not good for New Zealand.”

“For Act, this is just a stepping stone to build a platform and a real reform agenda to make New Zealand a better place. This is not our 2020 campaign election night party.

“This is the launch of our 2023 election campaign.”
