Nikki Kaye’s resignation from National this year ruined the Auckland Central race. Now it is making her one of the most watched electorates in the country in the 2020 elections.
White, a labor lawyer, lost to Kaye by 1,500 votes in 2017. Although Kaye held the seat in four consecutive elections, Auckland Central has historically been a Labor seat.
According to the Newshub Nation-Reid Research poll, 15.7 percent of Labor voters planned to vote for Swarbrick. Only 60 percent of Labor voters said they would vote for White.
While 77.9% of National supporters planned to vote for Mellow.

Green Party MP and Auckland Central candidate Chloe Swarbrick says she does not want a constituency deal and has not sought it.
Just over 77 percent of green voters planned to cast their vote for Swarbrick, and 16.5 percent planned to vote for whites, the poll showed.
According to Newshub, Mellow thought the poll was wrong and the support was much higher. Online, Mellow said it was a three way race and he would continue to campaign hard.
On Facebook, White posted: “Really pleased with today’s poll result. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to win this job for Labor? “
In a statement, Swarbrick said the poll showed that “every vote counts.”
Auckland Central does not belong to any political party. It belongs to the people of Auckland Central. This poll shows that the only thing Auckland Central voters should be concerned with with their electorate’s vote is who is the best candidate to fight for them, ”Swarbrick said in a statement.
The Newshub Nation-Reid Research poll also showed that 43.2 percent of NZ First voters planned to vote for Jenny Marcroft. She was demoted to No. 17 on the party’s list this week.
Among voters for the Act, 55.2 percent planned to vote for Mellow.
In terms of the party vote, the poll showed that a majority of Auckland Central’s Labor voters in 2017 (77.6 percent) were also planning to vote Labor again. While 4.7 percent planned to vote for National this time, and 9.6 percent for the Greens.
In terms of national voters, 68.6 percent said they would vote blue this year, and 15.7 percent switched to Labor, the poll showed.
532 people participated in the survey. They were interviewed by landline, online and on the street. It had a margin of error of 4.2 percent.
