The Ministry of Education has reacted quickly after a senior teacher sent Covid-19 conspiracy theories to at least 40 principals and teachers.
Greg Londt from Te Kuiti High School emailed a pdf book that included allegations about 5G, the deep state, and Bill Gates.
Londt used a personal email to send the message, which said “a lot of people are trying to stop free speech,” and “I think there will come a time when teachers could lose their jobs over these issues.”
The ministry said it disagreed with the content of the email and contacted the president of the high school board of directors as soon as it received the email alert.
He said he had done a lot to ensure that teachers and principals had access to accurate information on Covid-19.
A director who received the message from Londt said it was unacceptable and chilling.
Another director reacted to the email with the expression “woah,” but declined to comment because she did not want to give time to the ideas that Londt was sharing.
Londt told RNZ by email that he would not comment other than say that he regretted sending the information.
“I deeply regret the action and do not want any more publicity,” he wrote.
