A second house on a street in eastern Tāmaki caught fire, just days after a nearby house was destroyed.

Emergency services were called to the fire on Point View Drive in the early hours of Saturday and a New Zealand Fire and Emergency spokesperson said he was being treated as a suspect.

When firefighters arrived at the two-story home, she was “well involved” in the fire, the spokesperson said.

An investigator from the scene of the fire would return to the home Saturday to make more inquiries.

Police were also called to the scene of the fire to help with traffic control, a police spokeswoman confirmed.

The spokeswoman said the property was empty and a scene guard was posted overnight.

On Wednesday, another house on the same street was destroyed by fire.

The house that caught fire on Wednesday was owned by a businessman under investigation, Xiao Hua Gong, also known as Edward Gong.

All that was left of the four-bedroom house was a brick wall and a fireplace.

Because the closest reticulated water supply was almost a kilometer away, firefighters had to pump water from pools in neighboring houses.
