Hollywood star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson told a five-year-old Christchurch boy that he is proud of him for helping to spread a message against violence against women everywhere.

Angelou Brown sent the actor and former professional wrestler, with whom he shares his Samoan heritage, a t-shirt and a message in a viral video posted last week.

The video, on the ‘She’s Not Your Rehab’ Instagram page, showed Brown asking Johnson to wear the group’s anti-domestic violence shirt and help spread his message.

“My father is Samoan, so I’m pretty sure you are his cousin. And since you are part of the aiga [family]I thought about sending you a gift, ”Brown said.

“Is a T-shirt. Not just any shirt. This shirt my dad and uncles wear to encourage other men to treat girls well. “

Brown said her grandmother, who is currently battling lung cancer, had a “sad life” when her father was growing up.

“It was sad for my dad to see her get hurt so much. And he had to go to many shelters.

“My dad says his mission is to help other men heal so their wives don’t have sad eyes like Grandma.”

Brown said he believes Johnson is “the strongest man on the planet” and that many men look up to him.

“If you wear this shirt, I think they will listen to you.”

Johnson shared Brown’s video on his own Instagram on Monday.

“Angelou, I’m Uncle Rock. Yes, I am your “uncle” because of course all Samoans are related, “Johnson wrote in response.

“I am very proud of you, son.

“You don’t understand it yet, because you are too young, but you know how brave and inspiring you are for me and for our aiga, but now, for the world.”

Johnson said he admires Brown’s father for standing up and creating “She Is Not Your Rehab,” to make sure his mother is never forgotten.

“The way you sit in your grandmother’s arms while she talks to you is exactly the same way that I sat in my grandmother’s arms when I was your age, as she said her prayers in Samoan to God, and then she she spoke. how she talks to you.

“She was telling me exactly the same things your grandmother is telling you. Listen to her. And always remember their words.

“Stay strong Angelou and keep listening to your grandmother and your parents. One day you will become the leader of your aiga and also a leader that the world will admire ”.

Johnson said his office would also be in contact with Brown’s family.
