Dunedin City Council has been tasked with the appointment of a new CEO, handing the position to Sandy Graham, who has been serving as interim.

In a memo sent to council stakeholders, Dunedin Mayor Aaron Hawkins confirmed that Ms. Graham had been appointed the council’s new executive director following a hiring process.

“I am sure you will join me in congratulating Ms. Graham, who will begin her new role on October 12.”

Fifty-one people applied for the position, including candidates from abroad.

Mrs. Graham refused to speak to him Otago Daily Times before the press conference to be held today at 1.30 pm.

In a press release sent after ODT Confirming the appointment, Ms. Graham said she was “delighted and honored” to have the opportunity.

There are many challenges ahead from sector reform to COVID recovery, in addition to the challenges we face with the next 10-year plan.

“We have a lot of work to do, but I am confident that DCC has the team to address these big issues. It is an honor to lead them ”.

Hawkins said in the press release that Ms. Graham was the outstanding candidate in a high-caliber field, and her record of performance and delivery meant the city could trust her leadership.

“During my seven years on Dunedin City Council, I have watched Ms. Graham grow as a leader within this organization. I have no doubt that she will do a fantastic job in her new role,” said Hawkins.

The appointment was confirmed after councilors met last week to vote for their preferred candidate from a list of three finalists.

He first worked for DCC in the mid-1980s as a member of a highway team and has held various positions of responsibility since rejoining the organization in 2007.

That included Webmaster, General Manager of Strategy and Governance and, since October 2018, General Manager of City Services.

Graham took over as interim CEO in July following the departure of former CEO Sue Bidrose, who left to head AgResearch in Christchurch.
