Three members of the Headhunters MC gang were arrested after two firearms, methamphetamine and cannabis were discovered Sunday on a central Christchurch property.

Police were on alert Sunday after receiving a series of complaints about two late-model Mercedes cars allegedly driving dangerously and speeding, said Canterbury Subway Commander Superintendent Lane Todd.

One of the vehicles was seen in Tarras in Central Otago but did not stop when instructed to do so.

Todd said police had information suggesting both vehicles were traveling to Picton and that police across the South Island were actively searching for the cars.

One of the men, 47, will appear in Christchurch District Court on Monday, charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply.

A 33-year-old man has been charged with possession of cannabis and a 37-year-old man for obstructing the police. Both are due to appear in Christchurch District Court on Wednesday.

More charges are being considered and both vehicles have been impounded, Todd said.

“The actions of these drivers caused great concern among members of the community, which led them to contact the police.

“Our staff worked diligently to locate these vehicles and their occupants, and we are pleased with the result,” he said.
