Burke Gr, Naenae, where a homicide investigation was launched after a death Monday night.
Family members and friends of a man killed in Lower Hutt overnight have gathered around the crime scene cordon Tuesday morning.
Police were called to Burke Gr, Naenae, around 11pm on Monday.
Attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful. He died of injuries.
A homicide investigation was launched.
It didn’t seem like there was a weapon involved.

Relatives waiting on the street for more news said Stuff the victim, a 25-year-old man, was visiting the property and did not live there.
Detective Inspector Darrell Harpur told Stuff Tuesday morning that police are in the early stages of their investigation and no arrests have yet been made. He wanted to assure the public that there were no gang ties or associations to the incident, and no risk to the public.
As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, the body is still at the scene while forensic police personnel and pathologists complete their investigation.
A tent was set up at the rear of the property along with screens in place to prevent anyone from the elementary school from viewing the scene.
A neighbor at the cul-de-sac said she saw the emergency services flashing lights around 11 p.m. from her living room window.
“Before we knew it, there were a lot of policemen, both of them and sniffer dogs,” he said.
Emergency services worked late into the night and were still there early in the morning, he added.
Another neighbor at the dead end said he looked out the window at 11.30 and there were “police cars for Africa.”
Police had been seen at the home in the past, but not recently, he said Tuesday morning.
Cardboard has been placed over the windows of Naenae Elementary School, which faces the property, to prevent children from seeing the murder investigation.
An appeal for information was made.
