Former Dunedin Mayor Mr. Cull shared the news today.
“I was recently diagnosed with a tumor in my pancreas.
“I need to undergo more tests to be more clear about the type, treatment and prognosis.
“Regardless of what they reveal, however, it is clear that from now on I will have to devote 100% of my energy to meeting this sinister health challenge and supporting my whānau.
He said this meant that he could not devote the attention and energy necessary to the role of Southern DHB president.
Therefore, I have submitted my resignation from the Board to the Minister of Health.
“I have greatly appreciated the trust of the community and the Minister in first electing me to the Board and then appointing me as President. It has been a privilege to serve, albeit briefly, in that position.
“Thank you to CEO Fleming, the Southern DHB staff, and my colleagues on the board for their support and indeed constant attention. Best wishes to the board and my successor as they face future challenges.”
Southern DHB Executive Director Chris Fleming expressed his sincere wishes for the organization when Dave and his family faced this challenge.
“On behalf of Dave’s many friends and colleagues at DHB, we regret that we can no longer benefit from his vast experience on the board, and we thank him for the important contribution he has made thus far in the transition from commissioner to board. structure.
“We wish Dave and his family all the strength for the time ahead and offer all the support we can provide.”
Cull’s last day at the meeting will be October 15th. He is supported by Vice President Dr. David Pérez, who will assume the role of Interim President when Mr. Cull leaves office.
After resigning as mayor before last year’s local body elections, Mr. Cull was voted into the DHB board and then appointed president in December.
