A woman in her 20s is fighting for her life after falling 100 feet from an attraction in Cairns.

The woman fell off the top of a ride called “The Hangover” at the Showfest at Cairns Showgrounds.

The incident occurred around 5.30 pm and the patient was taken unconscious to Cairns Hospital.

Intensive care paramedic Denis O’Sullivan told the media it was “chaotic” when he arrived on the scene.

“There were a number of people concerned … In these types of incidents it is good for everyone to go back and let people do their jobs,” he said.

“The lady suffered some traumatic injuries and was unconscious when the Queensland Ambulance Service arrived and was taken unconscious to the hospital.”

He said paramedics had to go through a “difficult extraction” when the woman fell into “components of the travel machinery.”

An investigation into workplace health and safety will be initiated.

According to the trip’s Facebook page, The Hangover is described as a trip “for adrenaline lovers, young and old. Be prepared to fly through the air with the pendulum arms turning a full 360 degrees.”
