Comedian Ellen DeGeneres has left fans furious, after comparing isolation at her multi-million dollar mansion to being in jail.

The 62-year-old comedian hosted her talk show from her home during the coronavirus pandemic to follow the rules of social estrangement.

During his opening monologue, he thanked medical workers and essential workers for helping to combat the spread of Covid-19.

He then thanked his wife Portia de Rossi and his dog Augie for acting as his camera crew and filming the show.

“Portia and I have been in quarantine for three weeks and it’s nice actually because we can spend time together and talk and really get to know each other, right? Did you know she’s Australian? Fascinating,” shows Ellen’s show. Host commented.

However, his next joke fell out of favor with viewers, after comparing life in his luxury home to being in jail.

“This is like being in prison is what it is,” DeGeneres joked. “Especially since I have been wearing the same clothes for 10 days and we are all gay here!”

Fans rushed to Twitter and attacked the comedian and her privileged position, calling her out for comparing her situation to that of those in prison.

“My 19-year-old daughter is considered an ‘essential employee.’ She is a fast food worker. She has been exposed EVERY DAY. No GAF about Ellen’s privilege pampers a $$ stuck in her mansion. Show me @ellen working at the grocery store lines. NO mask, NO gloves. Then I might mind, “An angry user wrote.

“Request to put her in a real jail after quarantine is lifted. Just for a month or so, so maybe she can learn something,” someone else joked.

“Hey Ellen, volunteer at a grocery store or food bank. Get on the front line if being kidnapped from your mansion is too difficult. Unbelievable,” commented a third angry fan.

The presenter began his monologue and noted that his goal was to get out of his fans’ minds what was happening in the world right now.

“While we are stuck here, I want to help you forget about everything that is happening in the world,” he began.

“I always wanted to have this show as a distraction, as a break from what is happening that can be unpleasant. If you feel depressed, I want to elevate you, if you feel trapped, I want to establish you are free and if you feel that you are going in the wrong direction, I want you to endorse that thing. “
