Covid-19: US records most coronavirus deaths in single day, surpassing April mark

At least 2,658 people died from Covid-19 in the US on Wednesday (local time), making it the deadliest date for the United States since the pandemic began.

The milestone was recorded on the night of Dec. 2, which means the day’s death toll could rise further overnight, CNN reported.

Before Wednesday, the deadliest day of the pandemic was April 15, according to data from Johns Hopkins. The now third worst day was Tuesday.

More than 100,000 people were in the hospital battling the virus on Wednesday, also a record, CBS News reported.

Around the world, the coronavirus spread rapidly during October and November, resulting in a record daily count of cases and a growing number of deaths. The maximum number of cases registered in the United States in one day came on Friday, with more than 205,000.

More than 270,000 people in the US have died from Covid-19, the most of any country. Almost 1.5 million people have died around the world.
