Two new cases of Covid-19 were announced on Saturday, including an imported case detected in managed isolation and a historical case.
The landmark case involves a person who flew from Christchurch to Auckland on a chartered flight after completing controlled isolation.
The person was tested because another man, who also tested positive for Covid-19 after leaving administered isolation, was on the same flight on September 11.
However, further evidence has determined that the case is not linked to that case, the Health Ministry said.

“Any infections would have occurred abroad before the person returned to New Zealand earlier this month and they are no longer infectious,” a ministry spokeswoman said.

”As we have said previously about historical cases, we know that some people can return a positive PCR [nasal swab] test long after they have recovered from the disease and are no longer infectious. “
The person was tested twice in controlled isolation, but tested negative on both day three and day 12.
All the passengers on that flight have already been screened, except for one small child.
All have tested negative, except for the historical case of Saturday and three others. Another test is awaiting results.

A man with coronavirus who returned to New Zealand from Russia is in isolation at the Auckland quarantine facility.
The imported case involves a man who returned to New Zealand from Russia via the United Arab Emirates on September 21.
He returned a positive Covid-19 test on the third day of his isolation at the Auckland quarantine facility.
The Health Ministry’s contact tracing team has identified 4,177 close contacts of cases since August 11, seven of whom have yet to be contacted. The rest are self-insulating or self-insulating has ended.
There are currently 61 active cases of coronavirus: 30 imported cases in isolation or managed quarantine facilities and 31 in the community.
There are two people receiving inpatient treatment in isolation in the general wards of Auckland City and Middlemore City Hospitals.

On Friday, the Health Ministry revealed a list of 15 places visited by a family of three who later tested positive for Covid-19.
Those cases come from the man who previously tested positive after completing isolation in Christchurch.
He, two of his family members and two others on the flight also tested positive for coronavirus.
On September 18, the family traveled to Taupō, where they reunited with 18 other people from various locations in New Zealand, before returning to Auckland on September 20.
Those locations include Wellington, Christchurch, the Bay of Plenty, Hamilton, and Auckland.
On Friday, four more close contacts were identified, bringing the total number of close contacts to 35, eight of which have so far returned negative tests.
The rest are self-insulating and have been tested or are in the testing process.

Chief Health Officer Dr. Ashley Bloomfield said it was “not ideal” for a family that later tested positive for Covid-19 to visit Taupō and meet 18 other people from across the country.
