Returning New Zealanders will no longer have to stay in their room after the test on the 12th while on the MIQ premises, to relax the rules.

On Tuesday, an MIQ spokesperson said Things The Ministry of Health reported that room restrictions should be lifted on 12/11, starting Monday.

Until now, MIQ guests had to stay in their rooms between the final test and the departure date.

The ministry said that recent operational improvements, such as limiting the movements of returnees within MIQ facilities, were “sufficient to reduce risk,” meaning the restriction could be lifted.

Media updates by the ministry will be reduced in frequency, as no cases have been found in the community for more than two weeks.

Updates will go out every other day: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

On those days, cases that tested positive on MIQ in the days prior to the last update will be reported.

“The public can be assured that the ministry will report on any significant developments, including any cases that arise in the community, sooner if necessary,” the ministry said.

At this stage, the next scheduled update is for Friday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases is 2,078.
