The UK has recorded the highest number of new daily coronavirus cases.
The British government announced 7,143 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday (local time), a jump of a few thousand from the number of cases the day before.
So far, the highest number of new daily cases seen in the UK during the pandemic was 6,201 on May 1, followed by 6199 on April 5.
Britain already has the worst death toll from the pandemic in Europe, with some 42,000 confirmed deaths.

Cities across the UK imposed new coronavirus restrictions last Friday as they scrambled to slow the spread of Covid-19, with London at risk of following soon.
Leeds, a city of more than 750,000 in northern England, prohibited residents from meeting with members of other households, either indoors or in private backyards. Wigan, Stockport and Blackpool also faced new restrictions.
In the Welsh cities of Cardiff, Swansea and Llanelli, households will also be banned from mixing indoors. And in Scotland, students were asked not to go to bars and restaurants last weekend.
Along with previously announced local closures, a quarter of the UK population now lives under increased restrictions.
Meanwhile, London, home to nearly 9 million people, has been added to the British government’s Covid-19 watch list as an “area of concern.” That means the UK capital could face new restrictions as well, if infections continue to rise in the city.
