Scott Smith, a spokesman for the health department, said Trump’s rally, as well as a wedding that took place in the area the next day, likely contributed to the case numbers.

“These events appear, based on the characteristics of the cases, as likely drivers of increases in COVID-19 cases in Beltrami County,” Smith told ABC News.

Responding to revelations in the case, Trump’s presidential election opponent, Democratic candidate Joe Biden, said that Trump had exposed “his own supporters to the pandemic for his own political satisfaction.”

The reports came after Trump’s first public appearance since returning to the White House after his three-day stay in the hospital, even as his aides are silent on whether he is still contagious with COVID-19.

Speaking from the balcony of the White House without a mask, the president told the crowd that he was “feeling great.”

White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said the president was eager to resume the campaign, but would do so safely.
