MidCentral District Board of Health Executive Director Kathryn Cook was tested for Covid-19 at a temporary facility in Palmerston North earlier this year.
Free Covid-19 tests will be available at Te Marae or Hine-The Square in downtown Palmerston North on Thursday.
MidCentral Medical Health Officer Rob Weir said that new cases could occur at any time, so it was important to continue testing.
“It’s a quick and easy process and it helps us reassure our whānau and friends that our communities and our district are Covid-19 free.”
Weir said that as the Christmas season approached and more people traveled to New Zealand, it was important to stay alert, follow the movements, practice physical distancing and stay home if you were unwell.

“If you work in the central business district, if you’re doing some early Christmas shopping, or if you’re riding the Intercity bus service, then it’s worth taking a few minutes out of your day to relax.”
The day of the test is carried out from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and complements the surveillance tests that had been carried out throughout the district, in businesses, hotels, motels and residential care centers for the elderly, and in the Main St testing site seven days a week.
People with severe symptoms should call their General Practice Team or Healthline first for advice on getting tested.
