Covid-19: eight new virus cases, all in managed isolation

There are eight new cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand, all in isolation.

An Air New Zealand flight crew member who tested positive for the virus also returned to the country, the Health Ministry said.

On Monday, Air New Zealand said one of its staff members tested negative for the virus in New Zealand on November 18, but tested positive upon arrival in Shanghai on November 22.

All other members of the crew tested negative.

By early afternoon Tuesday, three close contacts of the Air New Zealand staff member had been identified in Auckland, and all are now in self-isolation.

Two other people were being investigated as close contacts. Other members of the flight personnel were being assessed by Air New Zealand on their contact status, the Health Ministry said.

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) would be following any close contacts when they were back in New Zealand.

People who visited six Auckland stores where the positive case came are asked to watch for symptoms of Covid-19 or get tested.

These stores are: BP Connect Māngere, Resene Mt Roskill, Countdown Papatoetoe, New World Papatoetoe, Countdown Greenlane Pharmacy and Animates Manukau.

On Tuesday, there were 53 active cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand. The total number of confirmed cases was 1,675.
