Westpac has confirmed that a staff member at its head office tested positive for Covid-19 and employees are being asked to monitor their health.

The bank spokesman said the non-customer-facing employee hired him through close contact.

“As soon as they learned that a member of their household had had contact with a case of Covid-19, the employee isolated himself. The self-isolation began last Friday night and the official advice is that the member of the staff would not have become infectious until Tuesday this week. “

However, the spokesperson said that as a precautionary measure, the bank was thoroughly cleaning the workspace and the floor where the staff member worked.

He said other standard Covid-19 procedures had been instituted, including asking the employee’s colleagues to monitor his health.

“We are in frequent contact with this employee and offer full support,” the spokesperson added.

Nine new cases were reported in New Zealand today, eight in managed isolation and a domestic contact from one of the marine employee group cases, said Chief Health Officer Dr Ashley Bloomfield.

The Ministry of Health has been contacted to clarify whether the Westpac case is among those reported today.

There are currently 1,923 confirmed cases and a total of 66 active cases.

The only new community case is a close family contact from one of the marine employee group cases.

There are a total of 66 active cases.
