A restaurant in a popular New Lynn food district is the last public place a person infected with Covid-19 has visited as the virus resurgence hits the western suburbs.
Health authorities notified Kage Brickworks in Lynnmall that it was a “place of interest” after a diner who later tested positive for Covid spent time at his restaurant over the weekend.
It is the second location in the West Auckland Mall to have been alerted by public health last week.
The website of the Ministry of Health says that a person was at the Kage restaurant on Sunday morning between 9.15 am and 11.15 am
Two days earlier, an infected shopper spent about 30 minutes at the mall’s Countdown supermarket between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
While the risk of contracting Covid was “very often very low”, the Ministry of Health asked people who were at the scene at the same time to monitor their health and seek medical advice if they became ill.
The store closed Tuesday morning for a deep cleaning after health authorities alerted the chain’s management that a person infected with Covid had bought there.
As the number in the Auckland August group rises to 173, a new bereavement sub-group connected to Mt Roskill Evangelical Fellowship church is beginning to see new cases added every day.
There are now 24 cases and 101 close contacts linked to that event. Two more were added yesterday.
There has also been a surge in locations of interest since last Wednesday.
The Ministry of Health list highlighting the places and times that people infected with Covid visited before being tested now includes New Lynn’s Bricklane restaurant, Kreem Bake Cook in Henderson and Crave Cafe in Morningside.
At least 20 bus trips were identified on the Northern Express last Thursday and Friday after a bus driver tested positive this week.
And all students and staff at St Dominic’s Catholic College are tested after a senior attended class last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday while infected.
It was revealed yesterday that the Mt Roskill church member who sparked two dozen cases after visiting a grieving family home was destined to be in self-isolation.
The person had been examined prior to his visit on August 27, but the test result was pending.
As a close contact of another positive case, they should have been in isolation for 14 days, even if they tested negative.
The broader church group now has 45 cases.
