The Wellington Zoo will reopen next week, with free admission until the end of June.
The zoo has been closed to the public on levels 4 and 3 of the coronavirus blockade.
With the support of Wellington City Council, the zoo will reopen on Monday.
“We really miss our Wellington community and we know that many have missed being able to visit the animals and people at the Wellington Zoo,” said Executive Director Karen Fifield.
“It is great that we reopen for free soon, so that all Wellington families can enjoy a visit to the zoo with their loved ones and friends.”
The zoo will be free with a reserved online ticket until June 30.

All visitors must reserve a timed ticket before arriving at the zoo, to provide a contactless experience.
This would also help limit the number of visitors to the zoo and assist with contact tracking. Visitors will have the option of visiting the zoo in the morning or afternoon.
“The zoo will function differently at level 2 to ensure the safety of our visitors, staff and animals,” said Fifield.
“People will be able to visit the zoo and interact with our animals and people, but at the moment we are not going to give our popular animal talks or Close Animal Encounters. We have introduced new processes at the zoo entrance and increased cleanliness. Procedures and additional hand sanitizer throughout the zoo.
“As a great outdoor space, the zoo is an ideal place for our community to start revisiting outside of their homes. As long as our visitors feel good and are not in isolation, visiting the zoo is a great opportunity to get out. , spend time with friends, whānau and the incredible animals. “
Reservations will be available through the zoo’s website starting at noon tomorrow.
