The organizers of Wairarapa’s famous Toast Martinborough festival have made the difficult decision to cancel the event this year.
Thousands of people flock to the region’s boutique wine village annually to sample the best drops.
In a statement on the festival’s website, organizers said they had to reassess the potential risks involved in bringing together thousands of people in the midst of Covid-19.
“Your safety, and that of the large number of people who come to work that day, is paramount,” the statement said.
“We want to be able to celebrate Martinborough wines with you in an appropriate style, without complications or risks. Therefore, since there are still so many doubts, we have called to cancel this year’s event.”
Advance tickets for the event sold out in minutes and general admission sales opened earlier than usual, leaving the event almost sold out.
Organizers said they were destroyed.
People could keep their tickets to use for next year’s event or refund them through iTICKET, which would be in touch over the next week with further instructions.
“We are very honored for your support of this year’s event and look forward to seeing all of you next year. Let 2021 come!” Said the organizers.
