Covid 19 coronavirus: Saturday Night Live jokes about New Zealand’s pandemic response in parody starring Timothee Chalamet

Saturday Night Live is the latest international television show to highlight New Zealand’s Covid-19 response.

The American comedy show featured a parody about a coronavirus family, with Call Me By Your Name actor Timothee Chalamet who was the famous guest host.

Chalamet interprets the disappointment of the Covid family, which was sent Down Under to infect the population.

“We paid to send you to New Zealand and now look. Zero cases! People go to concerts there, it’s a shame. Think of your poor mother with the Spanish flu, ”says the mother of the“ Rona ”family.

“Now it infected everyone and that was before airplanes,” he tells Chalamet’s character.

New Zealand currently has 56 active Covid-19 cases, which are all imported cases.

“If you don’t catch it again, your career is over,” threatens the father.

It is the latest international program to mention the New Zealand pandemic response. In October, the BBC’s Spitting Image featured Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern as a Mary Poppins puppet.

The puppet sings during the episode of the satire program: “I lock us up faster than the Yankees and the British.

“Now NZ is virus free, we kicked him in the tits.”

And last week, American talk show host Stephen Colbert screamed for New Zealand, recalling his trip to Aotearoa in 2019.

“If I can send a message to that slightly younger version of me from late 2019, I would say: don’t leave New Zealand,” he says.

“They figure out how to contain this thing that will start to spread around the world in about a month. I know you don’t know what I’m talking about and this sounds crazy, but trust me: buy toilet paper.”

The talk show host, and Lord of the Rings fan, spent six days in the country last October filming The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which averages 3 million views per episode.
