Eve Branson, mother of Richard Branson, the billionaire founder of the Virgin Group, has died of coronavirus.

He was 96 years old.

Branson shared the news in a blog post, where she wrote that she “endured one last victory, managing to fight the virus.” However, he wrote, “she expended all her energy on the process.”

“One of my wonderful sisters, Vanessa, and her nephew Louis were with her to the end, as were the wonderful nurses who she entertained with stories of her life and lots of laughs over glasses of whiskey.

“Rather than mourn her loss, I want to celebrate her wonderful life, her tremendous spirit, the joy she brought to so many, and the love she gave us all.”

In the post, Branson described his late mother as “a force of nature.”

“She lived many extraordinary lives. She took glider lessons disguised as a child, enlisted in the WRENS during World War II, toured Germany as a ballet dancer after the war, performed on the West End stage and worked as a flight attendant. a pioneer on the treacherous routes of British South American Airways. When I was little, she was always working on a project; she was inventive, fearless, relentless, an entrepreneur before the word existed. “

The billionaire, whose father died in 2011, also attributes the start of Virgin to the £ 100 his mother gave him after she sold a necklace.

The name of one of Virgin Galactic’s spacecraft, VMS Eve, is named after her.

“She will always be my mothership, but she is also the proud grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 10 who love her very much and miss her very much,” he wrote.
