There are nine new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation.

Of the nine new border cases, four are active cases and five are historical cases.

Of the active cases:

• One case arrived in New Zealand on November 29 from the UK. This person tested positive in routine tests on day 3 and was transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.

• Two cases traveling together arrived in New Zealand on November 21 from Qatar (more travel details pending). These people tested positive in routine tests on the 12th and were transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.

From the historical cases:

• Two members of the Pakistan men’s cricket team that we reported yesterday as under investigation tested positive in routine testing on Day 6. These individuals are confirmed to have historical infections and will be counted in our total as they have not been counted in the Foreign.

• One case arrived in New Zealand on November 17 from Germany via Singapore. This person tested positive on the 12th. Further investigation indicates that this is a landmark case.

• Two cases, who traveled independently, arrived in New Zealand on November 18 from the Netherlands via Singapore. These people tested positive on the 12th test. Further investigation indicates that they are both historical cases.

Wednesday Cases

Yesterday another member of the Pakistan cricket team on tour was the only new case of Covid-19 detected in controlled isolation.

There were no community cases.

An infected Pakistani cricket squad member was one of three cases previously reported as under investigation. There are still two cases under investigation.

The team has not yet received authorization to train. That will only happen once the Canterbury DHB health medical officer determines that they are satisfied that training activities are unlikely to transmit Covid-19. They were due to play their first T20 match against New Zealand on December 18.

There are currently 72 active cases in New Zealand.

The total number of confirmed cases in the country is 1704.

Meanwhile, all close contacts of the cases identified as part of the November quarantine group have already completed their scheduled tests and all have tested negative.

All six cases in the group were linked via the genome of their Covid-19 infection, and the New Zealand Defense Forces worker, the index case, was linked via the genome of their infection with those who recently returned. to the Auckland quarantine facility.

“Extensive investigations to determine an epidemiological connection” between the defense force worker, known as case A, and a woman who works in a clothing store in the city center, known as case D, have yet to give results, said the Ministry of Health.

The investigation included a review of CCTV footage, but was unable to identify significant contact between the defense worker and the woman.

This cluster will close 28 days from the date the last case in the cluster has recovered and emerged from isolation, the ministry said.

The first tranche of the coronavirus vaccine will launch in the UK next week with 800,000 doses targeting those most at risk in the community.
