A person who flew to Malaysia from New Zealand tested positive for Covid-19, according to local media reports.

The New Straits Times reported today that Tan Sri Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah confirmed that one of the 627 new cases to report was a returnee from New Zealand.

“He said the remaining two new cases recorded today were imported, and both involve Malaysians returning from New Zealand and Singapore, respectively,” reported the New Straits Times.

This case was one of 629 new cases in Malaysia, 627 were local broadcasts, and only two were imported cases.

Malaysia currently has 6323 active cases of Covid-19 and the total number of infections is 18,758.

When asked to comment, the Health Ministry said it did report a case of a New Zealander returning to Malaysia who tested positive for Covid-19 in September.

The Malaysian authorities have not contacted the Ministry of Health about new positive cases. It is standard practice to contact the appropriate National Focal Point when seeking information internationally.

Today in New Zealand there are three new Covid-19 cases to report, all in isolation.

The first imported case arrived from Great Britain via Singapore on October 9 and is under managed quarantine in Christchurch. The person tested positive as part of routine tests around the third day.

The second and third imported cases arrived from the United Arab Emirates on October 13 and are today being transferred from administered isolation to the Auckland quarantine facility. They also tested positive as part of routine tests around the third day.

Nine people recovered overnight, which means that the total number of active cases from New Zealand is 40. All are imported cases.

Yesterday there were four new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation and a historical case that was being investigated.

The Health Ministry said it had been investigating the historic case since yesterday morning after the person gave a “weak positive result.”
