The student at the center of the latest Covid outbreak visited an Auckland central university center on Tuesday, health authorities revealed.
The Auckland Regional Public Health Service said the Auckland University of Technology student who tested positive for Covid-19 this week was in the city campus student center on Tuesday when she was infected.
He was there for 10 minutes, from 2.30 to 2.40 p.m.
The health service said it considered this interaction low risk.
Anyone in the vicinity at the time would be considered a casual contact, authorities said today.
AUT’s Student Center is where students can get help with problems on campus and provides them with access to a variety of services and support options.
The public health service said today that if people were in the vicinity at that time they did not need to isolate themselves, but should monitor their health for 14 days starting on November 10.
If there were any signs of Covid-19 symptoms, people were told to get tested and isolate themselves until a result was received.
The health service called on anyone who was a casual contact and had symptoms and had been tested to contact them so they could provide further support if needed.
More information would be shared if needed after the 2pm government update today.
Several other sites, including an apartment block and a High St clothing store, are considered landmarks prompting massive testing throughout the city’s central business district.
The results of the preliminary genomic tests are due today, which will identify if the student has the same strain of the virus that was seen in a managed isolation facility.
