More than 70,000 community tests for Covid-19 have been conducted in the Greater Auckland area since the Valentine’s Day outbreak, which has infected 15 people in two weeks.

That’s more than 4 percent of the city’s population receiving a swab since February 14.

Nearly 4,000 of those tests were conducted at 10 dedicated community testing centers on Sunday after the city plunged into lockdown for the second time since the outbreak began.

There was also strong demand in today’s test centers.

North Region Health Coordination Center Director and Manukau County Health Executive Director Margie Apa said those who took a test when they needed it were playing their part in keeping the community safe.

“[They are] helping build confidence that if there is a case in the community, it will be detected quickly, “Apa said.

The test sites will remain open all week.

“We have ensured that the geographic distribution of the test locations meets the needs of the community, making it easy to find a test center,” Apa said.

“Given the recent positive cases, it is more important than ever that we have a low threshold for testing.

“If you have symptoms that could indicate Covid, do not delay in getting tested. The same applies if you have attended any of the sights, on the specified dates and times related to recent positive cases in South Auckland. “

He encouraged anyone with the following symptoms to get tested:

• New or worse cough

• Fever

• Throat pain

• Temporary loss of smell

• Difficulty breathing

• Runny nose

• Muscle pain

• fatigue
