The student’s neighbor AUT has been confirmed as a Covid-19 case following an investigation.

There are also two new cases of returnees in managed isolation.

The new case related to the defense forces group was confirmed today as a case after yesterday that returned a “weakly positive” result.

The person’s initial test was negative, but an additional test detected the weak positive result that officials investigated further.

The Health Ministry said the test results indicated a “very recent infection.”

The neighbor was classified as a close contact of the AUT student, also known as Case D, and has been in the Auckland quarantine facility since November 12.

The Auckland Regional Public Health Unit has also identified seven close contacts and three casual contacts. Everyone has been contacted and testing has been arranged.

Testing for all ten contacts is expected to be completed by the end of the day.

There are no places of interest identified to date for the latter case.

The other two cases in managed isolation are returnees from the UK and Dubai. Both have been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.

The total number of active cases is 58 and our total number of confirmed cases is now 1,645.

Tests

The growing demand for community testing continued yesterday on the Auckland testing network.

More than 10,500 tests were processed yesterday, bringing the total completed to date to 1.17 million tests.

Yesterday was the highest number of evidence processed in one day for a weekend since Aug. 16.

Almost 70 percent of the tests were conducted in the Auckland region and 10 percent in the Wellington region.

The ministry continues to ask people who were at the sights to get tested regardless of whether they have symptoms.

A list of testing sites can be found on the ARPHS website.

Skip on Covid Tracer scans

Yesterday saw the highest number of poster scans since Sept. 26 with over 1.1 million scans and over 500,000 using the app.

But that represents just 21 percent of the 2.3 million people who downloaded the app.

The Ministry of Health continued to implore people to use the app.

“It is encouraging to see that many New Zealanders are answering the call to get used to scanning QR codes again.

“The Ministry continues to encourage everyone to scan QR codes wherever they see them, as the more we scan, the more secure we will be.

“The faster we can get in touch with the trace, the faster we can stay ahead of the virus and prevent spread in the community.”

Earlier

There was increased demand for community testing across the Auckland test network with 5,400 tests conducted in Auckland alone, more than half in general practice.

The ministry continued to urge Kiwis to use the Covid Tracer app with only one in five users of the app scanning code.

“The ministry continues to encourage everyone to scan QR codes wherever they see them, as the more we scan, the more secure we will be.

“The faster we can get in touch with the trace, the faster we can stay ahead of the virus and prevent spread in the community.”
