Covid 19 coronavirus: Donald Trump mocked Joe Biden for wearing a mask before testing positive

During the first presidential debate, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, mocked Joe Biden for wearing masks in public.

On Tuesday, the president said he wore masks “when necessary,” but said his opponent Biden used masks unnecessarily when people were “200 feet away from him and he shows up wearing the largest mask I’ve ever seen.”

Trump and his wife Melania have since tested positive for coronavirus after the president’s close aide, Hope Hicks, became infected.

During the debate, moderator Chris Wallace asked Trump about his position on the masks.

“President Trump, he has increasingly begun to question the efficacy of masks in preventing illness,” Wallace said.

“And in fact, you recently cited the problem of waiters touching their masks and touching the dishes. Are you questioning the effectiveness of the masks?”

“No, I think the masks are fine,” Trump replied. “You have to understand, if you look… I mean, I have a mask right here. I wear a mask when I think I need it.

“Tonight, for example, everyone has taken a test and you have had social distancing and all the things you have to do, but I wear masks …”

“Like their rally,” Biden said.

“… when necessary. When necessary, I wear masks,” Trump said.

Trump then continued, “I don’t wear a mask like him. Every time you see him, he has a mask on. He could be talking 200 feet away and he shows up wearing the largest mask I’ve ever seen.”

Biden responded and started talking about reopening business.

“Well, masks make a big difference. Your own CDC director said that if we only wore masks between now and now, if we all wore a mask and became socially distant between now and January, we would probably save up to 100,000 lives. It matters. . “

Trump responded, insisting that he had also been told “otherwise.”

“And they have also said the opposite. They have also said …”

“No serious person has said otherwise. No serious person,” Biden said.

Wallace, the moderator, tried to intervene, but Trump went on to say, “Dr. Fauci. Dr. Fauci said otherwise.”

“He didn’t say otherwise,” Biden said.

Dr. Anthony Fauci is the director of the Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of the White House Task Force on Coronavirus.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has urged all US citizens in a community setting to wear face masks to slow the spread of Covid-19 since July. CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield said that covering your face is “one of the most powerful weapons” in stopping the spread of the coronavirus.

“I want to ask you, we have a little over a minute left in this segment …” said Wallace, again trying to get away from a discussion about masks.

“He said very forcefully, ‘Masks are not good.’ Then he changed his mind. He said, ‘Masks are good,'” Trump continued.

“I’m fine with the masks. I’m not fighting the masks.”

Wallace then mentioned the two candidates’ different approaches to campaigning.

“President Trump, he is holding huge demonstrations with crowds packed, thousands of people,” Wallace said.

“Outside,” Trump said.

“Outside. Yes, sir. All right,” Wallace said. “Vice President Biden, you are holding much smaller events with …”

“Because no one will show up,” Trump said. “Well, it’s true. No one shows up for their rallies.”

Trump defended holding larger rallies, saying “people want to hear what I have to say.”

“I’m doing my job as president, and I’ll have 25, 35,000 people show up at airports. We use airports and hangers and we have a lot of people.”

When asked if he was concerned about the disease, Trump said: “Well, so far we haven’t had any problems. He’s out there.

“That’s a big difference according to the experts. We do them outside, we have a big crowd, you see, and literally 24 hours in advance.

“And Joe does the circles and has three people somewhere.”

Biden responded at this point, saying that Trump had been concerned about being infected by his fans.

“By the way, did you see one of the last big rallies he had,” Biden said. “A journalist approached him to ask him a question, he said, ‘No, no, no. Get away, put on the mask, put on a mask. Have you been tested? I’m very far from those other people.’

“That’s what he said, ‘I’m going to be fine.’ He’s not worried about you. He’s not worried about the people there.”

Trump insisted that there were “no negative effects” at several rallies, which he said were attended by as many as 35,000 to 40,000 people.

“It’s been totally irresponsible the way he’s handled social distancing and people who wear masks basically encouraged them not to,” Biden said. “He’s a fool at this.”

“If you could draw the crowd, you would have done the same,” Trump said as a final blow.

“But you can’t. Nobody cares.”
