Actor Robert Pattinson tested positive for Covid-19 while filming The Batman in the UK.
Warner Brothers studio released a statement saying that British production of Matt Reeves’ The Batman was halted, after one of the people in the production tested positive for Covid-19.
“A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19 and is isolating himself according to established protocols. Filming is temporarily halted.”
Pattinson will play Batman in the upcoming reboot. While Pattinson was not identified in the statement, Deadline reported that they have confirmed that the actor was the person who tested positive.
Production on the next superhero movie was on hold for five and a half months due to the pandemic, and it resumed just three days ago. The movie is only a quarter in line with Reeves’ previous comments on the movie.
The film has a star-studded cast, which includes Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Colin Farrell as The Penguin.
Late last month, a trailer for the film was released showing fans their first look at Pattinson as the Dark Knight.
Reeves told a virtual DC FanDome panel that the new movie is not an origin story.
“One of the things that I think is interesting is learning to be Batman,” said the director.
“The idea is that we are in the second year. It’s the Gotham experiment. It’s the criminology experiment. He’s trying to figure out what he can do to finally change that place.”
Last year, Pattinson, who rose to fame after playing Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise, shared how it feels to be cast in the role.
“It’s crazy,” he told Esquire.
“I was so far from thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally don’t understand at all how I got it.”
Batman is scheduled for release in October 2021.
