Restrictions on overseas travel and cruise ships entering Australian waters have been extended until mid-December.
Australian Health Minister Greg Hunt said today that the Federal Government will extend the human biosafety emergency period under the Biosafety Act 2015 until December 17.
The declaration gives the government “powers” to take the necessary measures to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19 in Australia, such as restrictions on the entry of cruise ships into Australia, protections on the supply and sale of certain essential goods, restrictions on abroad. travel and in retail stores at international airports.
It has been in effect since March 18, when Governor General David Hurley declared a human biosecurity emergency exists.
You can extend a human biosecurity emergency declaration indefinitely, with each extension for no more than three months, and you signed the second extension today.
“‘Skip September’, replace ‘December'”, says the amendment to the statement.
Otherwise, it was to cease on September 17.
Hunt said the decision was the result of “expert medical and epidemiological advice provided by Australia’s Chief Health Protection Committee.”
“AHPPC has reported that the international and domestic Covid-19 situation continues to pose an unacceptable risk to public health,” he said.
“The extension of the emergency period is an adequate response to that risk.”
The declaration of human biosafety emergency gives the government “expansive powers” to take the necessary measures to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19 in Australia.
The four current determinations, extended until December 17, are:
• Restrictions on cruise ship entry into Australia;
• Protections for the supply and sale of certain essential goods;
• Restrictions on travel abroad;
• Restrictions on retail stores at international airports.
