New cases of coronavirus continue to rise in the United States and at worrying levels.

According to the US media, all 50 states in the country have seen an increase in new infections, and some areas have reached horrible milestones.

Last week, Texas became the first state to reach more than 1 million cases, and on Monday it surpassed 20,000 deaths from Covid-19, the second-highest death toll in the state after New York.

California has increased restrictions once again after experiencing the largest increase in infections yet. The state’s daily case count has doubled in the last week, rising to just under 10,000 new cases.

California’s hardest hit counties have swiftly imposed strict restrictions, including closing businesses and requiring people to work from home. A statewide curfew is also being considered, Washington Post reported.

In North Dakota, face covering is now required in all public spaces and indoor commercial settings where social distancing is not possible.

Oklahoma is encouraging all state workers to wear masks and close at 11pm in all bars and restaurants.

New restrictions are also expected to be announced for Philadelphia due to increased cases and impending holidays.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy told US broadcaster MSNBC that they expect things to get worse.

“Please, God, it doesn’t reach the levels we saw in the spring,” he said.

“I think our peak in hospitalization in the spring was 8,300. We are now in 1900, 2000. So thank God we are not at those levels, but it is going to get worse. So we both plead with people to remember their personal responsibilities, especially when they are in private settings. “

Data from the Covid Tracking Project shows that the increase in cases is not significantly related to an increase in testing, with an increase in testing of 12.5 percent and an increase in cases by more than 40 percent.

In its weekly report, the White House coronavirus task force said that “there is now a broad sprawling, aggressive, relentless community spreading across the country, reaching most counties, with no evidence of improvement, but of further deterioration. “

“Current mitigation efforts are inadequate and must be increased to flatten the curve and sustain the Covid and non-Covid emergency healthcare system,” the report said, quoted by CNN.

The increase in cases across the country comes after the US elections, which saw crowded streets, marches and rallies.

In Philadelphia, health officials urged people who partied on city streets after Joe Biden became president-elect to get tested and stay away from others. ABC News reported.

The United States is also seeing people heading indoors to socialize amid colder temperatures as winter approaches.

America’s leading infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has warned Americans that they face “a very challenging and sinister situation” as winter approaches.

In some states, there is increasing pressure on hospitals and healthcare workers. Dr. Julie Watson from Oklahoma said AP that “we’re in trouble.”

“If nothing is done soon to stop the increase in cases, our hospitals will be more overwhelmed than they already are and we will not be able to be there for everyone who needs it.”

On Wednesday of last week, 1,248 people were hospitalized for confirmed or probable Covid-19 infections, breaking daily records in the state. AP reported.

According to CNBC, hospitals in the western and midwestern states in particular are being pushed to the limit amid a surge in cases.

Over the weekend, more than 68,500 people were in hospitals across the country for Covid-19, according to the Covid Tracking Project. That’s more hospitalizations than at any other time during the outbreak in the US By comparison, that number is slightly more than the population of Napier, New Zealand.

On average, the United States records more than 1,100 deaths a day, which is a 50 percent increase compared to the figures in early October.

Since the pandemic began, the United States has recorded 11.29 million confirmed infections and 248,000 deaths, data from Johns Hopkins University show.

America’s mayors and governors are desperately trying to curb infection numbers ahead of the looming Thanksgiving holiday, which begins next week.

“We really don’t want to see Mom on Thanksgiving and bury her before Christmas,” said Dr. Mark Horne, president of the Mississippi State Medical Association.

“It will happen. You’re going to say ‘Hi’ on Thanksgiving, ‘It was nice to see you’ and you’re going to visit FaceTime in ICU or plan a little funeral before Christmas. ” AP informed him saying.
