Counties Manukau brought the heat on the opening day of the 2020 Farah Palmer Cup rugby competition.

The Heat’s favorite team destroyed North Harbor Hibiscus 89-3 at Pukekohe on Saturday in the second of three Group North games this weekend.

The hosts scored eight tries in the second half and 14 in total, with wingers Ruby Tui (three) and Waikohika Flesher (four) scoring half of the Heat’s five points.

The first five Hazel Tubic added 24 points with a try, a penalty and eight conversions, while her opposite Hayley Hutana scored North Harbor’s only points with a penalty in the 15th minute.

Hibiscus also had a yellow card to Zakiya Kereopa in the second fifth in the 58th minute.

With the abolition of the Premiership / Championship format this year, as the North and South pools were used, North Harbor always faced it: they finished fifth in the Championship in 2019, while Manukau Counties were fourth in last year’s Premiership .

In Saturday’s other clash, Waikato beat Northland Kauri 18-3 at home at the University of Waikato, while on Sunday Taranaki host Auckland at noon in Inglewood.
