The 56-year-old completed a 14-day stay in managed isolation at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland on January 13, after traveling back to New Zealand from Europe.

Health officials announced the case this afternoon, after the woman reported experiencing Covid-19 symptoms after her stay. She had been an avid user of the Covid Tracer app.

Before the virus was detected, authorities say the woman traveled through the southern part of Northland with her husband, visiting a variety of cafes, restaurants and retail stores in places such as Whangarei, Ruakaka and Helensville.

The Ministry of Health published the list this afternoon, detailing its movements from January 14 to January 22.

The most recent list of locations includes FreshChoice Ruakaka, which he visited twice, the first visit was on January 14 from 3:03 p.m. to 4:33 p.m. and the second was on January 16 from 11:10 a.m. 12:15 pm

He also visited Countdown Helensville on the afternoon of January 19 from 1:46 pm to 3:01 pm.

Other venues include Noel Leeming Whangarei on January 15 from 9:02 a.m. to 10:12 a.m., Urban Remedy Cafe on January 17 from 8:17 a.m. to 9:47 a.m., and The Dune Restaurant & Bar in Mangawhai on January 18. from 4:47 pm to 7:17 am.

The first location named before the rest of the list was Bendon Whangarei, which he visited on January 5 from 9:03 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

In a statement, Kiri Hannifin, Countdown’s security general manager, said it was “disappointing to learn” of the visits, but stores had immediately acted on the information.

“This is obviously disappointing news for our Countdown Helensville and FreshChoice Ruakaka store teams, but we heartily thank the customer for using the app to scan and quickly alert our stores,” said Hannifin.

“We have acted on the information immediately and all team members who were working during the times confirmed by the Ministry are asked not to return to work, to stay at home, isolate themselves and take the test” .

Chief Health Officer Dr. Ashley Bloomfield, during an earlier press conference, said health officials called the woman on January 16 to check in after her stay in isolation, but she had not reported any symptoms.

However, her recollection after discussing her symptoms with her health practitioner today revealed that she developed “muscle aches” on January 15 that “got progressively worse.”

Anyone in the same places on the same day has been asked to isolate themselves, call Healthline, and get tested for Covid-19.

Bloomfield previously said there were four close contacts of the woman who would be tested for Covid-19.

Anyone else who has been in contact with the woman, or has visited the same places, is considered a “more casual” contact, which means they will need to isolate themselves and get tested.

According to the Ministry of Health, the woman had traveled to Spain and the Netherlands at the end of last year for work reasons.

“While in the Netherlands, he was in contact with members of his family, who subsequently tested positive for Covid-19.

“The person left the UK on his way to New Zealand, traveled through Singapore and arrived in Auckland on December 30,” says the Health Ministry.

Covid Response Minister Chris Hipkins said the source and variant of the infection are still unknown and it is important not to speculate on what the strain could be until information is available.

“It is also too early to speculate on what our possible response options may be, including things like alert levels.

“Of course when we do, of course, we will keep people informed,” Hipkins said.

He said steps were already underway to carry out genome sequencing and a second PCR test, which could take around 24 hours for both results to be obtained.

Hipkins reinforced key public health messages for people to self-isolate if they are not feeling well and get tested for Covid-19.

“Don’t go to work if you don’t feel well. Use the Covid Tracer app to scan wherever you go.

“Turn on the Bluetooth and wash your hands,” Hipkins said.
