The four community cases are all linked to the Auckland group, while the imported case is a man in his 20s who arrived from India on 23 August. He tested positive on the third day of his stay and is now in quarantine.

As of Sunday afternoon, there were 72 people linked to the Auckland group staying at the Jet Park Hotel, the city’s quarantine facility, 58 of whom tested positive for COVID-19.

There are four people in the hospital with COVID-19; two in North Shore, one in Middlemore and one in intensive care at Waikato Hospital.

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health said an additional case was recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of active cases nationwide to 116: 77 in the community and 39 in managed isolation.

The five most recent new cases bring the country’s total to 1,421.

Canterbury investigation closed

A potential COVID-19 case under investigation in Canterbury has been confirmed not to be a positive infection.

“The investigation has been closed,” the ministry said.

More border changes

The Government is intensifying controls at the air and sea borders.

The testing, isolation and quarantine requirements of the arriving maritime crew have been reinforced with the introduction of offenses of infringement, as well as routine and mandatory tests for all border workers.

The changes will take effect at 11:59 on Sunday.
